What it asks first
Command: TRIMCurrent settings: Projection=UCS, Edge=None, Mode=QuickSelect object to trim or shift-select to extend or [cuTting edges/Crossing/mOde/Project/eRase]:Read from Musa CAD 0.8.0 itself (musacad --dump-wiki-data), so these facts always match the release this wiki is built for (0.8.0).
TRIM cuts away the part of an object that runs past another object. Click the piece you want to remove, and Musa CAD cuts it at the nearest crossing on each side.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”Type TR and press Enter. Musa CAD shows the current settings, then waits for you to click what to remove. The piece that will go is highlighted under the cursor before you click. Press Enter when you are done.
Command: TRCurrent settings: Projection=UCS, Edge=None, Mode=QuickSelect object to trim or shift-select to extend or [cuTting edges/Crossing/mOde/Project/eRase]: (click an end)Trimmed 1 object.Select object to trim or shift-select to extend or [cuTting edges/Crossing/mOde/Project/eRase/Undo]: EnterTo trim many objects at once, drag across them with the mouse button held down. Everything the path crosses is trimmed. In Quick mode you can also click on empty space and then a second point; in Standard mode that click starts a crossing window instead.
Hold Shift while you click to extend an object to the next edge instead, as EXTEND does.
Quick and Standard mode
Section titled “Quick and Standard mode”TRIM has two modes. Musa CAD starts in Quick mode.
- Quick: every object in the drawing is a cutting edge. You only click what to remove. If what you click has nothing to trim it to, it is deleted, and Musa CAD says
Deleted: nothing to trim it to. - Standard: you first choose the cutting edges, then click what to trim. Objects that do not cross a chosen edge are left alone.
Command: TRCurrent settings: Projection=UCS, Edge=None, Mode=StandardSelect cutting edges ...Select objects or <select all>: (pick the edges) EnterSelect object to trim or shift-select to extend or [cuTting edges/Fence/Crossing/mOde/Project/Edge/eRase]:In Standard mode, objects you selected before starting TRIM become the cutting edges, and pressing Enter at Select objects makes every object an edge. Switch modes with the mOde option. The mode is kept for next time, and is the TRIMEXTENDMODE setting.
Options
Section titled “Options”| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
cuTting edges (T) | Choose which objects to cut against, instead of all of them. |
Fence (F) | Standard mode. Click points to draw a line; everything it crosses is trimmed. Press Enter to finish. |
Crossing (C) | Click two corners. Everything the window crosses is trimmed. |
mOde (O) | Switch between Quick and Standard. |
Project (P) | None, Ucs or View. Kept for AutoCAD habits; in a 2D drawing it changes nothing. |
Edge (E) | Standard mode. Extend cuts against where an edge would reach if it went on, even if it stops short. No extend cuts only where edges really cross. |
eRase (R) | Select objects to delete without leaving TRIM. |
Undo (U) | Puts back what the last click or path trimmed. It appears after your first trim. |
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Lines, arcs, circles, ellipses, splines, polylines, construction lines and rays can be trimmed. Clicking anything else says so.
- Each click, drag or fence is a separate undo step, both inside TRIM and with U afterwards.
Trim: no crossing edge found.means nothing crosses the object near where you clicked. In Standard mode, check that the edge you need is selected, or turn on Edge Extend.- A circle needs two crossings to be trimmed, because it has no ends.
Compared with AutoCAD
Section titled “Compared with AutoCAD”TRIM follows AutoCAD’s newer behaviour: Quick mode by default, the highlighted preview, and Standard mode with the classic cutting edges. Projection is accepted but has no effect, because Musa CAD is 2D.
