The drawing area is black, blank or slow
- Who this affects
- Laptops with two graphics chips, computers drawing in software, and drawings zoomed away from their contents.
- Why it happens
- Musa CAD is running on a slow or software graphics driver, or the drawing is simply out of view.
The drawing seems empty
Section titled “The drawing seems empty”Before anything else, make sure the drawing is in view. Type ZOOM, then E for Extents, and press Enter. Musa CAD zooms to show everything in the drawing.
If that shows nothing, check the layers. Type LAYER to open the Layer Properties Manager and look for layers that are off or frozen.
Find out which graphics driver it uses
Section titled “Find out which graphics driver it uses”Start Musa CAD from a terminal and look for this line:
[musacad_ui] GL renderer: <your graphics card> | <driver version>- Your graphics card’s name. Good. If drawing is still slow, see below.
llvmpipeor another software renderer. No graphics driver is in use. Install your graphics card’s driver.
To see the frame rate while you work, open Options (type OPTIONS) and turn on Show performance overlay.
On a laptop with two graphics chips
Section titled “On a laptop with two graphics chips”Many laptops have a power-saving graphics chip and a faster one. Musa CAD may start on the slower one.
- Windows: in Settings ▸ System ▸ Display ▸ Graphics, add Musa CAD and choose High performance.
- Linux with an NVIDIA card: put
prime-runin front of the command that starts Musa CAD, for exampleprime-run flatpak run org.musacad.MusaCAD. Some desktops also offer Launch using Dedicated Graphics Card when you right-click the app. - Linux with two AMD or Intel chips: start it with
DRI_PRIME=1in front of the command.
On Linux under Wayland
Section titled “On Linux under Wayland”Musa CAD runs natively on Wayland, from Flathub and from the AppImage. That gives a smoother cursor than running through XWayland. If you suspect Wayland is causing a problem, you can force X11 to compare:
QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb ./MusaCAD-0.8.0-x86_64.AppImageIf the problem only happens on one of the two, say so when you report it.
If the drawing area does not appear at all, see Musa CAD will not start.
