CompleteChecked against Musa CAD 0.8.0Verified

You can place a picture in a drawing, such as a logo, a scanned plan or a photo of a site. Type IMAGEATTACH (or IAT) and pick the file. Type ~ at the first prompt to choose it in a file window.

Musa CAD reads PNG, JPEG, BMP, GIF and TIFF images.

Musa CAD asks:

Keep a copy of the image inside the drawing? [Yes/No] <No>:
  • No keeps a link to the image file. The drawing stays small, and if you change the image, the drawing shows the new version the next time it opens. The image must be in the drawing’s folder, or a folder inside it, so the two can move together.
  • Yes stores a copy of the image inside the .musa file. The drawing then works on its own, anywhere. An embedded image can be up to 8 MB.

Musa CAD embeds the image anyway in two cases, and says so: when the drawing has not been saved yet, and when the image is outside the drawing’s folder.

CommandWhat it does
IMAGECLIPShows only part of the image, inside a rectangle or a polygon
IMAGEFRAMEShows or hides the frame around images

Drag an image’s corner grips to resize it. Images are included when you plot, behind the line work.

In a DXF file, an embedded image is saved as a separate file beside the DXF, because DXF can only link to images.

Musa CAD draws text with two kinds of font:

  • Its own single-stroke font. This is what the Standard text style uses. It is drawn with thin lines, like classic CAD text, and plots crisply at any size.
  • Any TrueType or OpenType font on your computer. Choose it in the Text Style window (STYLE) or the Properties palette.

AutoCAD’s classic SHX fonts, such as txt.shx, simplex.shx and romans.shx, are stored in Autodesk’s own format. Musa CAD does not read them. It draws them with its own single-stroke font, which looks close.

When a drawing asks for a TrueType font that is not installed, Musa CAD uses a lookalike if it can find one:

RequestedUsed instead, if installed
Arial, HelveticaLiberation Sans, then DejaVu Sans
Times New RomanLiberation Serif, then DejaVu Serif
Courier NewLiberation Mono, then DejaVu Sans Mono

Any other missing font is drawn with the single-stroke font.

In both cases the drawing keeps the name of the font it asked for. The Properties palette shows that name, and saving the drawing writes it back unchanged. If you install the font later, the text uses it.

To find text that uses a character its font cannot draw, run:

Terminal window
musacad --check drawing.musa
