What it asks first

Command line
Command: TEXTEDIT
Current settings: Edit mode = Multiple
Select an annotation object or [Undo/Mode]:

Read from Musa CAD 0.8.0 itself (musacad --dump-wiki-data), so these facts always match the release this wiki is built for (0.8.0).

TEXTEDIT changes the words of text that is already in the drawing. It works on single-line text, paragraph text (MTEXT), the label of a leader or multileader, and a cell of a table. Only the words change; the text keeps its layer, position, height and other properties.

Type ED and press Enter. Musa CAD shows the edit mode. Click the text you want to change, type the new words and press Enter. The new words replace all of the old ones. In Multiple mode, which is where Musa CAD starts, it then asks for the next text. Press Enter when you are done.

Command line
Command: ED
Current settings: Edit mode = Multiple
Select an annotation object or [Undo/Mode]: (click the text)
Enter new text: SCALE 1:10
Text edited.
Select an annotation object or [Undo/Mode]: (click another text)
Enter new text: DRAWN BY P. KIRAN
Text edited.
Select an annotation object or [Undo/Mode]: Enter

The text codes work here too, such as %%c for ⌀ and %%d for °. See Text codes on the TEXT page.

OptionWhat it does
Undo (U)Takes back the last edit made in this TEXTEDIT. If there is none, Musa CAD says Nothing to undo.
Mode (M)Asks Enter a text edit mode option [Single/Multiple] <Multiple>:. Single edits one text and ends the command. Multiple keeps asking for the next text until you press Enter.
Enter at Select an annotation objectEnds the command.

The mode is kept for next time. It is the TEXTEDITMODE setting: 0 for Multiple, 1 for Single.

When no command is running, double-click a text. A small window opens with the current words already in it, codes and all.

  • For single-line text and table cells, the window is called Edit Text. It has one line; press Enter or click OK to save.
  • For paragraph text and leader labels, the window is called Edit MText. It has a larger box where Enter starts a new line. Click OK to save.

Click Cancel, or press Esc, to leave the text as it was. Each change is one undo step.

When you select text, the ribbon also shows a Text Editor tab. Its Edit Text button starts TEXTEDIT.

  • At Enter new text: you type one line. For paragraph text this replaces the whole paragraph with that line. To keep or add line breaks, double-click the text and use the Edit MText window instead.
  • Musa CAD looks for the nearest text around the point you click. If there is none there, it says No editable text there. and nothing changes.
  • Text on a locked, frozen or turned-off layer cannot be edited.
  • In a table, the click picks the cell under it. Musa CAD says Table cell edited. If the click lands on a border rather than in a cell, it says Pick inside a cell to edit it.
  • Each edit is its own undo step, so U after TEXTEDIT takes back one edit at a time.
  • Esc ends the command. Edits already made stay.

TEXTEDIT keeps the names AutoCAD users know: DDEDIT as an alias, the TEXTEDITMODE setting, and Single and Multiple modes. In Musa CAD the new words are typed at the command line, and double-clicking opens a small window to edit in, not an editor on the drawing itself.

  • Place single-line text with TEXT.
  • Place a paragraph with MTEXT.
  • Find and replace words across the whole drawing with FIND.
