What it asks first
Command: ERASESelect objects:Read from Musa CAD 0.8.0 itself (musacad --dump-wiki-data), so these facts always match the release this wiki is built for (0.8.0).
ERASE deletes objects from the drawing. Select what you want to remove, press Enter, and it is gone.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”Type E and press Enter. Musa CAD asks you to select objects. Pick as many as you like, then press Enter to erase them all.
Command: ESelect objects: (pick a line)1 found.Select objects: (pick another line)1 found, 2 total.Select objects: EnterIf objects are already selected when you start ERASE, they are erased at once, without the Select objects: question.
With objects selected and no command running, you can also press Delete. Musa CAD erases them and says Erased selection.
Options
Section titled “Options”At Select objects: you can type a keyword instead of picking. These are the ones you will use most:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
ALL (ALL) | Selects every object you can select. |
Last (L) | Selects the newest object in the drawing. |
Previous (P) | Selects again the objects the last edit worked on. |
Window (W) | Asks for two corners and takes the objects that lie completely inside, whichever way you go. |
Crossing (C) | Asks for two corners and takes the objects inside or touching the box. |
Remove (R) | The prompt changes to Remove objects:, and what you pick is taken out of the set. Add (A) switches back. |
Undo (U) | Takes back the last pick or window. |
| Enter | Erases the set and ends the command. With nothing selected, the command ends and nothing is erased. |
SELECT explains every keyword, including Fence, WPolygon, CPolygon, Group and SIngle.
Selecting objects
Section titled “Selecting objects”At Select objects: you build up the set of objects to erase. Each pick or window adds to it, and Musa CAD says how many it found, such as 1 found. or 2 found, 5 total.
- Click an object to add it.
- Click an empty spot, then click again to draw a box. Going from left to right makes a window: it takes only objects that lie completely inside. Going from right to left makes a crossing window: it also takes objects that only touch it.
- Press and drag to draw a free shape, called a lasso. Start dragging to the right for a window, to the left for a crossing.
- Hold Shift and click a selected object to take it out again.
- Press Enter, or right-click, when the set is complete.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Erased something by mistake? OOPS brings back the objects the last ERASE removed, and keeps everything you did since. It says how many came back, such as
3 object(s) restored., orOOPS: nothing to restore.if there is nothing. - U also undoes the erase. One ERASE is one undo step, however many objects it removed.
- Objects on layers that are off, frozen or locked cannot be selected, so ERASE cannot remove them. Unlock the layer first.
- ERASE does not print a message when it is done. The objects simply disappear.
Compared with AutoCAD
Section titled “Compared with AutoCAD”ERASE works the way AutoCAD users expect: the same Select objects: step with the same keywords, a selection made beforehand is erased at once, and OOPS brings the last set back.
- Bring back the last erased objects with OOPS.
- Learn every way to choose objects with SELECT.
- Read more about changing drawings in Modifying objects.
